A past chairman of the Thames Water CCG and a board member of the Consumer Council for Water.
David is a Fellow of the Chartered Insurance Institute, Chartered Insurance Practitioner, Fellow of
the Institute of Risk Management and Chartered Fellow of the Institute of Personnel and Development.
He was awarded an OBE for setting up a basic qualification test for sellers of investment products and mechanisms to make it available nationwide. Taken up by the regulators the tests became mandatory in 1996, by which time over 100,000 had passed. He went on to create more meaningful qualifications for financial planners, which are now held by over 30,000 people.
David has also been Po-Vice-Chancellor of Sheffield University, Dean of East London Business School, Director-General of the Chartered Insurance Institute and a member of regulatory bodies for insurance and financial services.
